In the past 12 months we have seen a further shift in migrations from one cloud platform to another.
Since 2010, we have migrated email data from 21 different source archive platforms to a variety of destinations. A few years ago, there appeared to be a new push into Google rather than Microsoft Office 365 (O365) but in the past 12 months, only 7% of the migrations have been into Google compared to 36% into O365.

Chart 1 – Archive migration targets
One of the biggest trends has been the apparent exodus from Mimecast. A significant proportion (43%) of all our migrations have been taking data out of Mimecast. For these customers, 50% of them migrated to a competitor providing similar services, including Barracuda. The remaining were split evenly between Proofpoint – another similar competitor, Google and O365.

Chart 2 – Mimecast migration targets
The most popular destinations are split equally between Barracuda and O365, with both taking 36% of the migrations (See chart 1).
There are still on-premise archive migrations going on. 22% of the migrations in the past 12 months were from Enterprise Vault (EV) into O365. We are also seeing an increase in clients being concerned about their PST file estate, with 14% of all our migrations now being PST file based.
