A local NHS trust had a requirement to extract part of their archived data, currently held in EMC SourceOne, out to PST.
The engagement was carried out remotely as a managed service
using server hardware provided by the client to build and run the
migration application environment.
Working with the client a list of user archives was provided and
migration priority determined by the client in accordance with which users were currently active on the domain.
A 2-year cut off was set for the migrated data, therefore only
archived data under 2 years old was migrated to PST. There were
some exceptions to this which were dealt with at the end of the project and all of those users archived data was migrated.
The entire technical engagement was carried out remotely to save time and reduce costs to the client. This allowed for flexible interaction with the environment, as and when required.
After initial workshops had been held the environment sizing
information was detailed to the client in order for them to provide the necessary server hardware, storage and user accounts assigned with the correct permissions to access the archived data.
Having connected the migration server to the SourceOne environment an initial migration pilot was carried out using
nominated user archives provided by the client.
At this stage it was evident that there was an underlying issue with the SourceOne environment that was causing serious performance implications on the migration process. TrueSwift worked with the client to identify the problem and help provide a change to the maintenance procedures in operation on the SourceOne
environment to help improve migration performance successfully.
Following the successful pilot the remaining SourceOne user archives were migrated to PST. In total approximately 6200 user archives have been migrated with a total of 17.7 million messages.
In total approximately 2.3TB of archived data was migrated to PST.
